November 2 (Meeting at 11:30 a.m.; Speaker at 12:00 noon) – Ivan Weiner - Executive Director of the Albuquerque Film and Music Experience in NM. He'll share anecdotal stories about his close friends Robert Redford, Jeff Bridges and Dennis Hopper and discuss the film industry in the face of Covid-19. Ivan will join us LIVE from New Mexico. December 7 (Meeting at 11:30 a.m.; Speaker at 12:00 noon) – Jonathan Ornstein - Director of Krakow's Jewish Community Center, an organization devoted to rebuilding Jewish life in Krakow. Native born American and formerly from Baltimore, Jonathan will join us LIVE from Poland. Registration due by Friday, November 27.

January 4 (Meeting at 11:30 a.m.; Speaker at 12:00 noon) – Dr. David Agus - CBS News contributor, American physician, author and Professor of Medicine and Engineering at the University of Southern California. He is co-founder of Navigenics, a personalized medicine company and Applied Proteomics. Grandson of Beth El's Rabbi Emeritus, Rabbi Jacob B. Agus, David will join us LIVE from California.Registration due by Friday, December 25.

February 1 (Meeting at 11:30 a.m.; Speaker at 12:00 noon) – Melissa Hyatt - Presently, the 14th Baltimore County police chief and the first woman to lead this department. Registration due by Friday, January 22.

March 1 (Meeting at 11:30 a.m.; Speaker at 12:00 noon) – Abby Stein - American transgender author, activist, blogger, model, speaker, and rabbi. She is the first openly transgender woman raised in a Hasidic community, and is a direct descendant of Hasidic Judaism's founder the Baal Shem Tov. Abby will join us LIVE from New York. Our Live and Learn Committee is busy making arrangements for some of our popular Study Groups to be conducted via Zoom in Fall 2020, available only to our members whose dues are paid. October 21, 202 at 7pm - Join us on Facebook Live as we premier VOICES of CHANA. Stories of Survival, a virtual gathering for supporters and survivors of domestic violence and abuse in our community. VOICES of CHANA will feature a brief but powerful program which explores the alarming crisis within a crisis that victims and survivors have endured since mid-March, with the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Hear stories from the front lines and join us as we raise awareness, organize, and empower survivors to collectively make their voices heard in this second annual VOICES event.

During the pandemic with many people not leaving home or working from home some CHANA clients are trapped with their abusers. The staff of CHANA is working tirelessly to assist in these difficult circumstances.

You can help CHANA clients by purchasing gift cards for Giant Food and gas and mailing the cards to Lauren Shaivitz, 11708 Greenspring Ave

If you are cleaning closets you can drop off your unwanted clothing, shoes, linens and stuffed animals (in tied plastic bags, please) - at one of CHANA'S three clothing sheds. Please note that we cannot accept housewares, books, toys, electronics or breakables. THANK YOU!

All of these events are via ZOOM. No cost to participants.

Our congregation is changing it's name. so be on the lookout for a new name in the next FLAME.

September holds our High Holidays so we will not be having a particular event but will have a honey cake drive-by for the congregation.

October 22, 2020 at 10 am, Nancy Patz will be featured in a ZOOM video reflecting upon her life as a well-known and well published author of children's books.

November brings Gary Reiner, who will discuss his book (via ZOOM) , Counting on America: A Holocaust Memoir of Terror, Chutzpah, Romance and Escape. This will be an evening presentation so that all congregants can participate.

Our own Judy Handelman will ZOOM a craft project for Chanukah. Each registered person will be responsible for purchasing their own supplies and Judy will demonstrate as we follow along, making a perfect Chanukah gift.
